Baptism
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism
In Baptism, we are born again to new life. Both children and adults are baptized at Lutheran Church of Hope throughout the year.
We are happy and excited that you want to baptize your child at Lutheran Church of Hope. Please contact the church office to confirm a date. Baptisms are held during the 9am Sunday liturgy.
Pastor Scott and the Minister of Faith Formation will provide baptismal instruction ahead of time.
Whether you are a member or not, Lutheran Church of Hope and the pastoral staff are available for special liturgies, no matter your race, creed, sexual orientation, or family background.
Child of God,
you have been sealed
by the Holy Spirit
and marked
with the Cross of Christ
forever.
Godβs Promises
You are a child of God (Matthew 28:19)
You are washed clean of sin (Acts 22:16)
You receive the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5)
You are a member of the body of Christ, the Church (Romans 6:5)
You are granted eternal life (Mark 16:16)
In Baptism, God promises your child will be born again in a whole new life. The baptismal water is a physical sign of the covenant between your child and God.
Through Baptism, for the rest of life, your child can be sure of Godβs faithful and unconditional love.
Sponsors
Sponsors, or godparents, aid parents in the promises they make to God and their child in Baptism. Sponsors, therefore, need to be people who view Baptism as a sacramental gift from God, who will regularly pray for your child, remember him/her on their Baptismal anniversary, and provide a Christian witness in the way they live. This usually means that a sponsor needs to be an active member of a Christian church. In addition to the sponsors you choose, your brothers and sisters of Lutheran Church of Hope will also be your childβs sponsors and promise to do all these things for your child.
Your Promises
Help your child grow in faith through devotion and prayer
Help your child grow in the community of faith, the Church
Show your child Godβs steadfast love and mercy
In Baptism, you promise to read the Bible with your child, worship regularly, and teach him/her about the Christian faith at home and at church. Research has shown that a childβs biggest faith mentors are their parents.
Your Baptismal promises are more valuable than anything the world can give.

Honoring the Promises
Your childβs Baptism deserves your careful, intentional, and honest consideration on how you will fulfill your promises. It also gives you an opportunity to reconsider your own Christian life.
