Blessed be the Memory

Maxine Carol Farley (née Thies)

October 28, 1938 – October 29, 2025

Our dear sister in Christ, Maxine Carol Farley (née Thies), claimed the promise of her baptism early this morning while sleeping—just a day after her 87th birthday. Maxine now joins her husband, Phil, who claimed his baptismal promise last December in the Church Triumphant. Maxine will be named on Sunday, along with all the saints who rest from their labors, as we mark the festival of All Saints.

Maxine Carol Farley, beloved child of God

PScott gathered with Jenine, Maxine’s daughter this morning for prayers, commendation, and the singing of the Nunc Dimittis—a rite of the Church at the time of death.

Maxine coordinated the Women of Hope for many years, had a beautiful alto voice, and always had a dear smile on her face. She always brought her Christmas mugs for the annual Women of Hope Christmas luncheon. For many years PScott sang Silent Night with both Maxine and Phil (in 3-part harmony!) around their Christmas tree on Christmas Eve as they shared Christmas communion together.

The Valley of Hope Spire will toll 87 times today announcing Maxine’s death to the greater community.

We surround Maxine’s daughter, Jenine, and family, and her son, Michael, with words from Revelation 21- “And God will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eye. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be do more.” In these days of grief, we proclaim a God who grieves with us, who stands at the grave and weeps with us. And we also have a God who reminds us of the hoped-reality of the resurrection promise to come … where mourning and crying and pain will be no more – and the feast of all feasts will commence in the day of resurrection. Liturgy of Resurrection details will be planned in the days ahead with Maxine’s family and will be announced as they become available to the greater community. Blessed be the Memory of Maxine Carol Farley.

"Rest eternal grant her, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon her."
