Gloria Darlene Shonrock (nee Day-Smith)
August 12, 1942 – September 23, 2026
Our sister in Christ, Gloria Darlene Shonrock claimed the promise of her baptism last evening around 5pm after a long journey with Parkison’s Disease.
A talented needle-pointer and cross-stitcher, Gloria created crafts and hangings that have brought many people joy throughout the years. She was also quite active in Eastern Star. A milestone achievement in her life was working with daughter Carrie in the identification of and the final internment of Gloria’s faither, Cpl. Willia Franklin Day of the United States Army, who was listed as Missing in Action on December 2, 1950 after the Battle in the Chosin Reservoir during the North Korean Conflict. After his remains were identified, Gloria and Carrie worked to have his remains interned next to his mother in La Center, Kentucky.

Anointed with the Commendation of the Dying Rite a month ago, the church and PScott continued visits with Gloria throughout her hospice journey. Last Saturday evening, PScott gathered with Carrie and Ken for additional prayers of commendation – and over the past few days hymns and scriptures were sung and read.
We walk with Carrie and Ken, Gloria’s daughter and son-in-law, and family as they walk through the valley of grief and mourning, as they continue to mourn their daughter Allison, who died just over a week ago. As we walk with them, we remember the words of 1st Thessalonians in some of the earliest words of the New Testament; “We do not want you to be uninformed…about those who have died in the faith, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.” Gloria now rests with God, husband Ernie, and granddaughter Allison in the halls of the saints who have gone before us.
The Valley of Hope Spire tolled this morning 84 times announcing Gloria’s death to the greater community.
A joint liturgy of resurrection for both Gloria and Allison is being planned, and details will be sent out as soon as they are finalized via the Anchor e-news of LCHope.
